BEIJING, July 19 (Xinhuanet) -- Sources close to Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, who just announced their split Friday, told Us Weekly that they had been struggling for years, according to media reports.
The couple announced in a joint statement, saying, "We have decided to end our marriage. This was a very difficult decision. We have come to amicable conclusion on all matters. It is a painful time for all involved and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time."
Except for the statement, the couple declined to make any additional comments on their divorce.
One source close to Lopez told Us Weekly, "They went to marriage counseling. She was patient and loving and did everything he wanted her to.. She exhausted all the possibilities."
Another source said, "They would get into heated, horrible fights. Then, they would also go through times where they were extremely loving and romantic...It was a roller coaster with them from the beginning."
Singer-actress Lopez and and singer Anthony married in 2004 after knowing each other for years, and have two children together, 3-year-old twins Max and Emme.
